Nabalawag
Nabalawag is a municipality of the Special Geographic Area, in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. It is divided into 7 barangays.
It was constituted from barangays of Midsayap and Aleosan in North Cotabato, which voted to join BARMM in the 2019 plebiscite. The municipality was created by Bangsamoro Autonomy Act and ratified by plebiscite on April 13, 2024 — recent enough that national statistics for it are not yet published separately.

- Implementing Rules and Regulations of the BLGCPromulgated September 30, 2025. 696 articles setting out how the Code is carried out — the procedures, deadlines and rate ceilings quoted on this page.
- Republic Act 7160 — Local Government Code of 1991The national code. Inside BARMM it applies only where the Bangsamoro one is silent.

Reading it
Population is the count as of July 1, 2024, the reference date of the 2024 Census of Population. The 2020 figure is from the census before it, so the change covers 4 years rather than a single year.
Density is the census population over the land area on record. It is a flat average: a coastal town whose people all live along one road will read the same as one spread evenly across its hills.
Average barangay population divides the total across every barangay equally, which no municipality actually does — it is useful for comparing units, not for describing one.

Each barangay is its own local government unit with an elected punong barangay and council. The code beside a name is its PSGC identifier — the number every national record uses for that barangay.
Officials are from DILG’s Barangay Officials Directory as it stood on 2026-09-26; 2 of these 7 barangays have an entry in it. DILG publishes no term alongside the names and updates the directory as barangays report, so a name here is the last one filed rather than a guarantee of who holds the office today. DILG’s directory also carries contact details, which are not repeated here.

And above the municipality
The Special Geographic Area is not a province and elects no governor, vice-governor or provincial board. Nabalawag votes for its own officials and, separately, for the Bangsamoro Parliament.
What a municipality is responsible for.
These services are devolved to this level by the Bangsamoro Local Governance Code, so they describe what Nabalawagis mandated to provide — not an inventory of what its offices currently run. For opening hours and requirements, the unit’s own hall is the source.

Money it handles
- A tax of up to 1% on stores with gross sales under ₱50,000 in a city or ₱30,000 in a municipality
- Its share of the real property tax — 25% of what the province collects on property in it
- 10% of its general fund set aside for the Sangguniang Kabataan
- Its own annual budget, reviewed by the city or municipal council within 90 days
And what you pay it.
These are the ceilings the Bangsamoro Local Governance Code and its implementing rules set on what a municipality and its barangays may charge, with the deadlines that go with them. Nabalawag sets its own rates by ordinance and may charge less, so treat these as the most it can be rather than the bill — the hall has the ordinance.

About these figures
Structure from the Philippine Standard Geographic Code; population and land area from Wikidata, which carries PSA’s census figures with their census dates. Population is the 2024 Census of Population. Elected officials are the winners in COMELEC’s 2025 Certificates of Canvass, holding office to June 30, 2028.
Sulu is excluded: the Supreme Court removed it from BARMM. PSA census totals that still count Sulu will therefore be larger than the totals here. Cotabato City is listed as an area of its own, though PSA files it inside Maguindanao del Norte — the provincial figure here has the city taken out of it so the two are not counted twice. Province land area is the province’s own published figure, never a sum of its municipalities: Philippine municipal areas are self-reported and overlap, so they do not add up to the province they sit in. A blank is a fact about the record, not a zero.
A dash means the record has no figure — not a zero. Boundaries and office-holders change; where this differs from an official page, the official page is right.
